So last weekend, Suite Suzy & I made our way to DC to visit my BFF & new favorite city. I fucking love DC. Well, maybe not as much as I used to before I got a $100 parking ticket.
The point of the trip was to attend the Capital Jazz Festival. Kinda like a grown & sexy thing.
Since time and funds were limited, we settled on spending Saturday at the festival because the line up was off the chain. Set to perform was:
– Jazz Stage –
- Joey Sommerville
- Marion Meadows
- Regina Belle
- Will Downing
- Norman Brown
- Roy Ayers
- George Duke
– Soul Stage
- Leela James
- Rahsaan Patterson
- Swing Out Sister
- Raheem DeVaughn
- The Underground Divas (Maysa, N’Dea Davenport, & Caron Wheeler)
And you know your boy, so I had a press pass in hand to capture the goings on. By the end of the event on Saturday I realized that my press pass did not mean shit because security hassled me like I stole something. But I got what I needed anyway & like any resourceful photographer.
While at the event, I ran into several of my east coast online friends & that was great. The unfortunate piece is that it was so fucking muddy. I mean 2-4 inches of mud everywhere because of the rain.
I need to wrap this up so that I can finish this drink in this peace.
We enjoyed the event so much, that we already agreed to attend next year & started making preliminary plans. I can’t wait!
My mos def highlights from the festival were chilling with my best friends, good music, Sing Out Sister & N’Dea Davenport & not slipping in the mud while I photographed!
The trip ended Sunday with a wonder 3-hour brunch at B. Smiths in Union Station (DC) with Suite Suzy Cousin Dee, The Yellow African BFB, The Good Dr Long, & my girl Lola. During brunch we talked about everything from ways to seek an abortions, Black Gay Pride, My being sick of Obama, potted meat & how good the French toast was.
