If anyone else emails me about watching CNN’s “Black In America” program I am going to snap!!! To date, I got 14 messages about watching the program & then last week I was contacted by a PR firm asking me to put something on my blog to promote the special & guess what, I’m not. I am not getting paid & there is nothing in it for me, so fuck that.
While I am interested in the program, I also think it is a program geared towards whites, shit I have been Black in America for quite a while so. I say this because we know our shit is fucked up, we write books, have blogs, circulate giving talks, work in out reach programs, we know us.
The last email from a friend about BIA was from BFB & I responded with:
“I think that it’s going to be good but I really think they planned this so that white America can start to get to know more about black folk just in case a negro lands in the white house.
I will be watching & ready to critique.”
And another thing, I find Soledad O’brien annoying & not looking forward to hearing her nasally voice off & on for 4 hours.

Damn! You must have read my mind. I was gonna blog about this today but it seems that I done started some other shit that needs to run it’s course before I even post again.
My question is this, are there gonna be any dark black folk in this show? Because looking at the commercial, I noticed that everybody (except the lady who married the white dude) looked a lot like you and me. They making me think that the show should be called Light Skinned in America. I love me some me but damn! Are they trying to piss me off on purpose?
And I agree with your response to BFB.

LOL – they should have had Jesse to do the show – lol.
I’m definitely going to watch though.

TSSE – happy to know that I am not the only light skinneded negro running around LOL!!!
We saw a few clips so hopefully they covered a wider spectrum. I know for a fact that will be showing darker skinned prisoners, no for real, I saw a clip.
DTW – Jesse needs to be away from tv, and scissors, nuts & niggas for a while LOL!!!

Soledad Obrien , is so clear that she is a black woman , that i must respect her for that alone ! She is a friend in my head . One of the only black anchors , or journalists , that didn’t try to hang reverend wright out to dry , that actually was in the audience during the speech , and told the truth about only letting people hear the soundbytes of the speech not the context .
Now after that , i will check out the show (even though tafari your theory is right _) that i did not know about it until I came here 🙂

I’m not interested in watching CNN tell me who I am. I’ve been Black in America all my life, just like you said Byg.
Why is Soledad O’Brien always the point person for “Black” programs? LOL

A-men. [again, my usual “I am not religious” disclaimer applies to that statement–lol]
Seriously though–“Black In America” strikes me as very gimmicky. I took a look at bits of it when it first got started, and I am by no means impressed. Some of the comments have been decent, but overall, it just lets me know that people will never understand. And gawd, I, for one, am tired of the hair conversation/need to explain how it works–among other things…
Wake me up when we all muster the guts to acknowledge our humanity above all else. Sigh!

You know, you’re probably right about what the show’s gonna be about. Especially judging by the commercials. And we definitely know us, no doubt.
But I have to admit my curiosity just isn’t gonna let me miss it. Even if I wind up throwing shit at the screen, at least I’ll know why. I guess I just don’t want someone else telling me what was wrong with it. Wanna see for myself.

Co-sign on the request for promoting and not getting paid…what’s up with that? When I got that email, I was like “umm….what’s up with those ends?” lol!
Guess we should be grateful that we are Black and acknowledged by CNN.
LOL @ Lola’s statement.
