One thing that I really do not want to do here is analyze and or discuss politics because politics are just not my thang, but lately, it has been hard to stay silent.
By now, I am sure that you heard or read about Bob Johnson’s comments toward Barack as he supported the Clinton’s, yes the potential presidency of “Billary” Clinton.
“To me, as an African American, I am frankly insulted the Obama campaign would imply that we are so stupid that we would think Hillary and Bill Clinton, who have been deeply and emotionally involved in black issues — when Barack Obama was doing something in the neighborhood; I won’t say what he was doing, but he said it in his book — when they have been involved,” Bill Johnson 2007
First – who the fuck are “we”?
Second – “as an African American, I am frankly insulted the Obama campaign would imply that we are so stupid”. Aren’t you the same nigga that brought “us” BET uncut videos, Comic View, Ms Cita’s World, took away the news programming, excessive reruns of second rate shows, sold Black Entertainment to a white owned company, and enforced the idea that 24 hours of videos with gospel and church programming all day Sunday??????????? Nigga please! “We” are insulted that you think “we” Negroes are entertained by something you established. I know you think we were entertained but the majority of us you that you worked hard at bamboozling us and saw past your bullshit.
Third – We all know that Barack puffed a J & loved it. Because the man is real, he admitted to it instead of bitching up like the other 1st “Black president”. Let’s be serious!!!
Fourth – There are a whole lot of Black folk out there that can see past Billary’s “commited” racial connection & the obvious body slam that Billary attempted to jade MLK’s legacy. I would break this down further, but my blog buddy Renea has already done that, so why reinvent the well.
With all this said, Bob Johnson I’m screaming this in your face and other Hillary fans who think what she said was OK; bros before hoes!!! Yes, “bros before hoes”, is tacky as hell to say & even worse that hot dick & nuts, but I thought it would be important to quote something that I learned while watching thugged out “uncut videos.”
As far as I am concerned, your BET legacy has done as much mental and social damage as Tookie William’s.
Anyway, I found a great read on Black Embarrassing Television here.
Renea / January 15, 2008
Bob Johnson has some nerve pulling his sorry self out of the woodwork on behalf of the Clinton campaign. And if one more Clinton supporter writes about how many black friends Billary have, I think I’m gonna need a Goody powder and cold Coke. Next Hills is gonna cry again and remind us darkies how good she was to us and how she always thought we really did love her. The crazy thing is, I dug up that Toni Morrison article and she was not giving Bill a ghetto pass when she wrote that ‘black president’ article. She was making a point about how black people are portrayed in the media and how, at the time, Bill was being subjected to the same.
I wish EMERGE was still in publication. George Curry would have a whole bunch of old, handkerchief heads for his cover. Jesse Jackson, Andrew Young, Bob Johnson, Charlie Rangel…I am so embarrassed. I feel like my uncle just got drunk and started loud-talking at the family reunion. Shut up. It is too bad that the only representatives we have speaking on behalf of the ‘Civil Rights” generation seem to have their heads up the Clinton campaign. Damn those checks must be good. I haven’t heard a one of them say why I should vote FOR Hillary. No, they spend all their time taking shots at Obama.
They look like Don Cornelious those last few seasons on Soul Train– trying to look cool and not wanting to sit their old asses down. Walking around talking about what we ‘owe’ the Clintons. What we owe them? Not a mammymade thing. At least not the hip-hop generation. Ask Lani Guinier what we owe them, ask Marian Wright Edelman. Hell ask Jocelyn Elder. if Bill would have taken her advice, he wouldn’t have gotten impeached….
**alright, I’m gonna have to take this over to my page…lol

You know what, fuck it. Lets form a new party called niggas for no nonsense & run a joint ticket!!!
That would really trip people out.
OK, so unless, I get pissed off again, this will be my last political post.
Tomorrow we have a primary & I am not voting because “Billary” is the only democrat on the ballad.
So instead, I am taking my ass to the gym to work it out for an hour.
Tomorrow the mess will continue!!!

“this is madness”. it even got me step out from my apolitical stance, register to vote and actually vote for b.o. (drop by my blog for the full story). my husband and i have both become obsessed with primary-mania. and this is only the primray, right. just wait until it really gets ugly!

“I feel like my uncle just got drunk and started loud-talking at the family reunion.”
Renea…if that isn’t the truth! That is exactly how I feel.
Great post Bygbaby…these old men should be ashamed of themselves
Oh! I posted a little about it but Hillary went on the Tyra show yesterday (it airs Friday) one of the producers mentioned to us while we were waiting to be seated that Tyra was nervous because she had months to prepare for Barack and like a day to prepare for Hillary. Damage control anyone? Now you wanna hit up the black talk shows. I swear I had the “bitch please” look on my face most of the time I was suppose to be clapping
James Tubman / January 15, 2008
while there is a part of me that revels in the idea that there might be a black president
i’m very very afraid of black politicians
we have many black politicians all over this country
over 10,000
but almost everywhere they are it seems things are getting worse
in baltimore the top four positions for the city are black
and yet we have a lot problems and things seem to get worse
i hope the same thing doesn’t happen if barack gets in
Bygbaby / January 15, 2008
Cluizel – You know, I was listening to NPR today on the way to work & they were talking to Black residents in a SC town about the racial politics at play & many of them mentioned that they were upset with Hillary for going there.
One man said (while eating a BBQ sandwich), “she can cry all she wants down here if she wants to but that ain’t gone fly in these neck of the woods, Black women have been crying for years & no one has cared”. That made me laugh & want a BBQ sandwich.
I like Tyra a lot but her show is annoying, especially when she tries to get all serious. Sometimes I think to myself, just shut up & keep looking fine as hell. I know I am not her demographic, which is why I think the show sucks…
James Tubman – I hear you on that but, we have to think larger than that. the same shit happens in white communities in terms of corruption. I see & hear about it all the time in MI.
I do not see Barack as a man looking for a fast buck and or side deals that will get him paid. He oozes integrity in my book.
Baltimore has been fucked up for years. I know this because I watch the wire. LOL. Changes have to start from the bottom up, this is the only way a difference will be made. The people have to say that they do not want any more bull & take a united stance to get what they need & want.

Saw that (i.e., Bob Johnson talking smack), and wanted to hurl–that is, hurl something at the tv somehow hoping to break his nose or something. But then I realized our tv would suffer for my outburst.
I abhor BET and am glad my parents never let me watch it as a kid. As an adult, I thought it was just me–I loathed it and could never figure it out (again, tremendous missed opportunities to educate and inform…).
The Obama/BJ/Billary thing–I got a bit pissed off about it, but then I calmed down when I heard about Obama’s take-the-higher-road and let’s kill this MESS stance. That was SO beautiful. Just…beautiful.
Bob Johnson and BET–Ilgh!
Cluizel / January 15, 2008
“I know this because I watch the wire.”
LMAO…
That quote is hilarious and sat at the same time…SC always entertains.

Liz / January 15, 2008
First – who the fuck are “we”?
Amen!!! I love your bluntness! I have nothing in common with that man. I haven’t watched BET in forever. Give me a break…and Tyra having Hillary on her show talking about how she feels about the whole world knowing her husband was getting it from an intern… oh yes, trying to get sympathy. Whatever.
By the way, I do think you can go vote in the Republican primary though. And you don’t have to be a registered Republican either.
Bygbaby / January 15, 2008
Tamra – My mom did not care what we watched so that was never a factor in my home, with that said, we loved watching videos as a kid. As I grew older & demanded more from entertainment sources, BET had to go. Now that I am a parent BET, VH1 (most times), & MTV are forbidden in my home. “…I heard about Obama’s take-the-higher-road…” The man has class!!!
Liz – Anything less than me being blunt is me being a bia bia… Hillary going on the show was perfect timing in reality. Cluizel mentioned that the audience had < than 10 Black woman so yo know that means that the others were like ohhhhhhhh, poor Hillary, how could they. I am just waiting for her to break down to cry & I know she will again. Bygbaby

All I gotta say is: maybe they also took a taste of the bullshit but never inhaled it. Ugh!
Meikmeika / January 16, 2008
Great Post. As I watched I had my TV on mute, just astounded at H Clinton choosing Bob Johnson to represent her. I was so ashamed…..
As for BET, I can’t even watch it. Especially when I saw they were airing videos like this…WTF!!!??? Is this really how we are portrayed?
http://youtube.com/watch?v=TUkpR2Q6Oy8
Bygbaby / January 16, 2008
Jose – Right!!!
Meikmeika – That damn video says it all. It is funny, but such a damn shame!!! We deserve better, flat out.

Sugar / January 16, 2008
I’m sorry to be the party pooper here, but I’m mighty afraid you guys are going to be in for a big shock when the truth about how Barack Obama feels about race really comes out. He’s the one who said that race was not the reason all of those BROS were left out in that rubble and crap after Katrina was over. He’s the one who said that racism was about 90% over in this country, even though MSNBC had an article this week that said that racial harrassment at the workplace is the worst its been in decades. Look at how he hemmed and hawed when asked about what he hopes to do for Black males last night at that debate. Both Hillary and John Edwards had more concrete, and longer, responses than him. He doesn’t want to talk about race because he doesn’t see it as an issue.
You guys can vote for him if you should so desire, but I won’t. And, true indeed, BET has become a cess pool in the last 5-10 years, but if any of you can truly deny that for years that network did more for Black people than any other network ever did, you are lying to yourselves. There is more to the BET legacy than just “Uncut”. Get real. Donnie Simpson, a Washington, D.C. icon was MADE on that network. Trust that he isn’t going to throw the baby out with the bathwater.
I’m telling you, Barack Obama is the Tiger Woods of the Congressional Black Caucus. Mark my words so you can say, “Sugar said it,” when it all gets laid out on the table.
Bygbaby / January 16, 2008
Sugar – I love & appreciate your POV. I did not watch the debate but I have heard Barack talk about mandatory drug sentencing a few months ago & what he said made sense & he also talked about developing programs fro at risk males etc. Although I am not at risk (any more I guess), that made me happy.
Hillary has to cover her ass as much as possible after her last fuck up, so she is on damage control like a MF. Edwards, really needs to sit his ass down somewhere & help his wife get through her cancer treatment.
Barack is really caught between a rock & a hard place if you think about it. If he talks about race too much then he is playing sides & if he does not say enough, he is not looking out for people of color. So what is he to do???
One thing that I know is that “we” should not be expecting him to change the game up once/if he is in the Oval office. He is still the president & has a larger focus than racial politics. Which is one of the points I think you are making. With that said, if he was the president, I think we would have seen a much different governmental reaction in N.O. heck, I think if anyone else but a GOB was in office, things would have been much better.
“Barack Obama is the Tiger Woods of the Congressional Black Caucus.” Damn boo! that was out there and I don’t know how to react to that one.
Now on BET, yes, Donnie Simpson, Sherry Carter, Cheryl Stribling, Ed Gordon & many others were a cultural icon before the shift music jumped off @ BET. When these people left, all hell broke loose. Actually, when they canceled news programming, all hell broke loose & that was the indication that BET was for the video hungry with no jobs.
