OK, so as many have read previosuly, I am taking a class on Black History / Chattel Slavery at the Shrine of the Black Madonna in Detroit taught by one of my She-roes (Dahia I Shabaka) to increase my knowledge, that of my children & anyone else willing/force to listen. This current session will be ending on June 03 & to wrap up the session, the class is going on a road trip to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati OH.
Dahia & I discussed the possibility of the trip during the end of the last class session & now it is a reality. I am coordinating the trip & will be acting as the “Conductor” (A person who provided shelter for runaways and directed them where to go next on the Underground Railroad) for the trip.
Over the last few days, I have booked a 47 passenger bus, secured a parking lot / take off point, created a website for the trip & booked my reservation for the group at the Freedom Center. All of this work has been stressful but I am luck that I had 2 friends back me up & offer much needed support (Dahia & Retired Diva Barbara Jean). Because of my winning personality, quick whit, & expertise in bull shitting, I was able to obtain a few comp passes to get for the Freedom Center (which 1 will be raffled off) & a personal partial tour by the Fredom Center’s Carl Westmoreland whom I met last month when I visited another school trip led by a hero – Cole Jordan from Washtenaw Community College (my school).
This trip will be a great experience for me because I am not just a passenger & will really be presenting to this group who will be a pretty good mixture of class participants & Detroit Public School Teachers & others. Other bonus to this trip is that I will not have on my red boot/shakle.
If you are in Detroit or near be, consider this an invitation to “Get on the Bus”! All others meet us there, come plane, train or automobile,
