Today is the big day & I take my math final my math final! I have been studying all day & will continue to prepare until the drop dead time. Will the Math Dummy prevail & move on to the next level???
Suite Suzy basically told me that If I did not take the final that she was going to never let me live it down & that happens to be one of her specialties.
My instructor & I had the following correspondence status post chapter ten test.
Hi Brian,
You earned a 61.5% on the Chapter 10 test. I hope you decide to complete the Final Exam. It will give you a sense of how much you learned this semester. You may surprise yourself.

Hello X,
My wife & some friends actually gave me a serious pep talk today, so I will be doing the final & working hard to make it happen. Since I have been back in school, I am only maintained A’s & B’s so this is a hard challenge for me to deal with. I have put so much hard work & hours into to through in the towel now.
So I guess don’t count me out now. 🙂 Can you also remind me of all of my quiz scores 6-9 (again)
Brian

Hi Brian,
I’m glad to hear that you have a support network that won’t let you quit.
Your scores for each chapter are:
Chapter 6- 60%
Chapter 7-70%
Chapter 8-78%
Chapter 9-53%
Your average is 64.5%. This accounts for 70% of your grade.
You will receive full credit for homework.
It is totally reasonable for you to pass this class somewhere in the C-range.
Good luck!
X

I just cannot wait for Tuesday to be here, the fucking end of this majorly intense semester. I usually go to Chili’s after my last class to celebrate, but I think this semester I will chill on the traditions because I just ain’t (yes I said ain’t) in a celebratory mood.
Stay tuned!!!!!!!!!!

I hated “Maths” as a child/teenager (they say Maths, not Math in the UK where I grew up). My family were all into English lit (my parents were English lecturers/ teachers) and had a kind of phobia about Maths which affected me…i think it’s largely psychological – if you think you can do it, you can – if you think you can’t you can’t if you know what I mean! Fortunately in the UK they let you specialize really early so I dropped Maths, Physics and Chemistry at 16 and specialized in the subjects I liked.

Thanks all: Good News!!! I passed the class with a C- which means that I can move on to the next level. The Algebra course was in2 parts; the first part I got a B & the C- has me at a C or better to meet the pre-req. I went to see a counselor after I left class to be sure. The class is only 1½ hrs long & it took my slow ass 3 full hrs (no joke). She said she had time, well so did I. I was only 4 points from getting a full C.
Anyway I am about to head out for my Poly Sci exam, hoping & praying that all goes well there.
RoaRR – I wish we had the luxury of selecting our paths. Math would have definitely been skipped. I like more fluffy topic & thinks that do not require complex formulas that require devices to help you figure them out. R U still inthe UK? I always wanted to know what the Black experince is there. Enlighten me!!!
Holla!

Not only did you pass, SS won’t have to nag you anymore.

Well done for passing!
I live in the Caribbean now – thank goodness. I didn’t like living in the UK – it’s not a very healthy place for a ‘conscious’ black person to live…if you are into interracial relationships then you’d probably love it. lol. But seriously – on the surface it looks like it’s more tolerant than the US because of the race mixing but in actuality the racism is just as bad, especially in terms of upward mobility for blacks – it’s a lot harder for a black person in the UK to get a white collar job than it is for an African American. When I dress smartly there I tend to get lots bad looks from white people – it’s as if a black person isn’t allowed to have a good job/ dress well…there is no black middle class as such – so in my view it’s pretty depressing, certainly for an ambitious black person and/ or a black person who isn’t “integration hungry” to use Malcolm X’s phrase (I think that’s correct!).
I’ve referred to my experiences in the UK in some of my posts – if you are interested, check out the following:
I envy black people who have grown up in black environments,
Interracial relationships in the UK,

OK, I am pissed off, I just wrote a really deep comment & closed the damn window. Anyway to paraphrase what I wanted to say; am listening to the interview now & am totally digging it. I think Jane does deserve a Black pass fir her insightful background/contributions/comments. Maybe she is black & just was able to pass (LOL).
I live in a Jungle Fever capital myself (Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor). In my middle class neighborhood, I will say but cannot back up fully that interracial couples make up about 25% of the residents. I represent 1 of 2 Black families on my block & live right across the street from my Black neighbors (I say Black a lot because I am not a fan of the African American term).
Your blog is quite prolific & is a great read & has some awesome “taboo topics”.
To piggy back off o you Malcolm X comments, “I feel like a man who has been asleep somewhat and under someone else’s control. I feel that what I’m thinking and saying is now for myself. Before it was for and by the guidance of Elijah Muhammad. Now I think with my own mind, sir!” This is in reference to your comment “I didn’t like living in the UK – it’s not a very healthy place for a ‘conscious’ black person to live”. I liken both statements to being in the MATRIX.
It is essential to be unplugged & unplug others.

I usually select and copy what I’ve written if I have written a lot – in case I lose it – then you can use paste and it’s still there – I don’t know if i’ve explained that very well!

Wow – that’s a lot – more like the UK.
(I say Black a lot because I am not a fan of the African American term).
When I use African American, I use that term to distinguish them from eg a black person from the UK – because believe me they are very different!

Gosh…I haven’t seen the matrix actually.
