Recently I went to the Detroit Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History & saw the And Still We Rise exhibit for an African American Literature course I tool at Washtenaw Community College with Mona D. Benton . If you are in Detroit or close by, I would strongly recommend that you give this a visit.
There were several times during the exhibit I almost broke down in tears because it is sooooo moving & powerful. Fortunately I had a guide through with one of my school groups so it made it that much better, thanks Diane if you are out there!!!
Link, this is a good way to learn more about out past & how we got where we are now…

I live in Las Vegas, NV and I recently (09/27/11) went back to Detroit to bury my Mom. My daughter, who lives in NY flew in to offer me support. I mentioned to a friend of mine that I wanted to spend a special day with my daughter, especially after our loss. I said something spiritual, but not church would be nice. He recommended The Charles H. Wright Museum. Wow that had to be one of the best days I have ever had! I can’t tell you how renewed and rejuvenated I felt learning so much about our origin! This should be a required visit for every child in Detroit, come-on School board, how can there be one African American child in Detroit who hasn’t visited this place? We complain about Black History only being taught so little in our secular schools and here is without a doubt the best Black History exhibit/lesson in America! I absolutely, in the sincerest use of the word, LOVE this place!
